The Crud Forx™ is a solids removal system specifically designed for the on-line removal of bottom solids associated with hydrometallurgical SX processes whereas the Crud Frogz™ is utilised for interface crud. Both units allow for settler cleaning while eliminating the need to interrupt production. It has proved to be especially effective for bottom solids accumulated in SX settlers. Plants using the system have enjoyed prolonged periods of operation without the need to drain settlers for cleaning, even during major crud-runs resulting from poor up-stream solid/liquid separation. This minimises organic losses and improves product purity.
The Crud Forx™ system consists of a multi-piped slurry suction head, which is partially or fully immersed. The slurry suction head can either be connected directly to a removable flexible hose coupling, or to one or more modular lengths of rigid transfer piping. This allows the system to be adapted for most applications in SX settlers and can be readily tailored to client-specific requirements. The Crud Forx™ and accessories are available in a variety of materials of construction, suitable for use in most hydrometallurgy environments. The Crud Forx™ uses a unique combination of “air lift” and “back-pulsation” technology that only requires low pressure compressed air infrastructure for operation. This makes the units inexpensive to install and operate, and intrinsically safe for use in SX applications.
The Crud Frogz™ consists of a wide suction head mounted on a tri-wheel system. The crud suction head is custom mounted to always be positioned at the design operating interface level of the SX settlers. The crud suction head can either be connected directly to a removable flexible hose coupling, or to one or more modular lengths of rigid transfer piping. The Crud Frogz™ accessories are available in a variety of materials of construction, suitable for use in most hydrometallurgy environments. The Crud Frogz™ requires a typical crud removal positive displacement pump system generally included in most SX settler designs. The unit can be easily adapted for retrofitting to most crud removal positive displacement installations. This makes the units inexpensive to install and operate.
The Crud Barrow is a crud slurry collection and transfer management system designed for convenient and systematic management of bottom solids and interfacial crud removed from SX settlers by means of the Crud Forx™ system. It is a recommended accessory to be used in conjunction with the Crud Forx™ system. This mobile two-wheeled system comprises a tank for collection of the Crud Forx™ removed slurry, as well as an air-operated diaphragm pump used to transfer the slurry from the SX area to the client’s crud treatment facility. The Crud Barrow design includes an integrated compressed air distribution manifold for easy connection of two Crud Forx™ systems to the Crud Barrow.
The Crud Barrow may also be equipped with a second diaphragm pump used in the application of the Crud Forx™ for accelerated removal of high-density compact bottom solids. The benefits of including the Crud Barrow unit as part of the Crud Forx™ SX solids management system are:
- Rapid, effective and safe management of SX solids
- Facilitates Crud Forx™ operation by offering a contained receptacle and transfer system for removed product slurry (improved SX housekeeping)
- Unit offers flexibility in accessing application areas around SX plants due to the mobile nature of the design
- The dual application diaphragm pump(s) for removing high density SX settler bottom solids offers operations with high density compact solids in SX settlers, an effective management solution for this operating scenario
